Where are we now

Description

A light goose egg had set in on the smaller man's head. Shaking his head, he allowed his mind to clear before realizing that he was lying prone, as if something had knocked him backwards. The other man was already awake, propped a quarter metre away from him on his hands and knees. The smaller man looked around, regarding his environment in curiosity. Obviously, this wasn't the same place they'd began; the sky was bright and clear, and the dogged pursuers from before were nowhere to be found. In fact, there wasn't anybody in sight. The air was completely still, and free of sound, save for that of his own heart beating and the other's shallow breathing. A long white wall, inlaid with circular holes, supported by thick square pillars, surrounded them loosely, bearing a likeness to a cross between Stonehenge and the Roman Colosseum. Beyond this wall lay several tall red towers, stretching to the sky and disappearing from sight not too far up, as if swallowed up by an invisible fog. A low murmur penetrated this momentary state of intrigue: the other man was speaking to himself.

"What'd you say?"

The former didn't move. "I said I've been here before," he mused, his tone leaden with unease. "I don't know where, or how. But I've been here before."

Grim, the shorter of the two, cocked his head. "What, like déjà vu? I don't understand; I've never seen this place, and I don't know how-"

"I say I've been here before." The larger Stig paused. "What..."

Grim shook his head, furrowing his brow in concern. "If you've been here before, then how am I here, too? Was I there when you were here?"

"No, no, it wasn't that... there was something awful about this place, Grim. We need to leave."

A natural tendency for scepticism prompted Grim to challenge this. "I've never known you for a precognitive man, Stig. Your imagination is getting the best of you; perhaps you're still dazed from the fall." It wasn't surprising to see a reaction like this in the other, for his emotional perception was highly potent, and could easily be subject to manipulation.

"Let me speak!" The sharpness in the Stig's demand and his sudden turn startled Grim into silence. "I don't think how I got here matters in this situation. What I do know is that I was here, in this very location somehow, and discovered that something ominous was stalking me. It looked deserted, like it is now, but it's not- and that I am for sure of." He then turned away. "I'm not mad..."

"I never said you were," the blonde said in a quavering voice. "What happened next, where you were?"

An oppressive silence set in as Stig didn't respond. By now, they were both fearful; indeed, this was a terribly unusual place, and neither had any honest idea what would happen, nor what this dreaded thing could be. What was once intriguing became suspicious; Grim could feel his senses heightening as he waited for something to occur. "I'm not quite sure," the other said finally, tucking a strand of hair behind his ear as he struggled to remember. "but I think we should start moving..."

This took me forever and I'm 200% done and Grim and Stig go on an adventure. One of my best works so far; maybe all the wait was worth it. Comments and feedback are always appreciated- FULLVIEW for best results!
Grim (blonde hair, glasses) and Stig (black hair, blue shirt) are creations of mine.
